California man says Prius accelerated out of control

A California Highway Patrol officer helped slow a runaway Toyota Prius from 94 mph to a safe stop on Monday after the car’s accelerator became stuck on a San Diego County freeway, the CHP said.

I don’t want my family subjected to an out of control piece of crap coming at our car doing 100mph and killing my family!
Everyone subjected to these pieces of crap on the road, needs to file a massive class action law suit against this negligent company for being subjected to emotional distress when seeing one of these unsafe cars on the highway !

it is impossible for the accelerator to get stuck on the Prius, theres a brake override system that makes it impossible for acceleration while brakes are being applied.

On this model – you hold in the Ignition for 5 seconds and it shuts off. Something he’s done a 100 times.
Look, if you can’t spot a scam and assume people are idiots-that is how we get massive runaway lawsuits. A dolt is a dolt is a dolt….& the media is just as culpable. The bigger the gov. gets, the more dangerous it will become. This is why the gov. SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED INTO PRIVATE BUSINESSES . The gov. has no clue how to make better cars, they only know how to lie, deceive and steal from the public/taxpayers. So, instead of building better cars, Government Motors resorts to smearing the competition. Will they get away with it? I dont think so because the American people are smarter than the gov. thinks they are.

@mdhavey. Ok for someone who claims to be a professional mechanic, the things you’re saying sure don’t support that. First of all prius’ don’t have a distributor like most cars made in the past 10 years. Any mechanic would know that. Second, his car was a 2008, not a 2006. And finally, the prius does have a brake override system built into it. Don’t believe me? Theres a video on youtube you can watch of a woman who demonstrates it.

Check it out before you post that its impossible, or that the computer locks you out. Or that your car will flip like my Sikes said. Please know the facts before you post.

You can put your car in neutral but that doesn’t bring it to a stop. Easy? Ok Dale Earnhardt Jr..
Actually there are Toyota drivers that have done this successfully. They notice the accel prob and throw it into neutral and the car continues to rev rpms. there’s a guy that was experiencing this and was able to get the car to the Toyta dlrship and the mechanics there were dumbfounded what was happening.

Granted prius drivers are not the sharpest tools in the shed, most are so busy smelling thier own farts that im suprised they can keep it between the ditches at all, but we are talking about a electronic controlled vehical, the gearshift controls the constantly variable transmission via a wire, when the prius electronic brain goes all blue screen and takes off at full throttle who says its gonna go into neutral any more than stop when you step on the electronic controled regenerative brakes.

Seriously, Toyota has admitted problems, not only in USA but Japan as well.
But this story, i dont know..seems weird all of it. Somehow doubt a Prius would do 94mph with full brake.
And from what i understood this modell was not subject to the accelerator problem.

Steve Wozniak is having a problem when he operates his cruise control, and accelerates with it. The cruise control just keep accelerating until he taps the brakes and cancels it altogether.
This has nothing to do with what Sikes is claiming, which involves multiple system failures, especially the brake override.
Have you noticed that people/news do mention the CHP officer tragedy and the congressional testimony, and not Woz’s problem? Did you think you were uniquely S-M-R-T?
