After reading the article about another Toyota recall…?

Is it valid for me to start doubting Toyota’s quality now? The idea of the accelerator getting stuck seems to be equivalent to the Pinto fiasco and exploding gas tanks from rear benders.
My friend’s dad was telling me today that Ford seems to have skyrocketed in reliability while Toyota seems to be having some bumps, maybe even declining.
Is this a valid statement?

That’s true that Toyota’s reliability has slipped off a bit and what you say about the ford is true. Honestly you should ignore the floor mat problem ( not literally ) but I mean that this doesn’t actually prove that Toyota is going bad. You should not doubt Toyota’s quality just because of this, when it comes to engines, Toyota really makes very reliable engines. However I am not sure about Ford for that but even on fuel economy and safety, Toyota is still better than ford. Remember this, any Japanese cars such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan will hardly ever break down.

Not necessarily chevy pickups from 65 to about 85 have the same problem and it was not announced until the 90′s. These things happen in cars

Every car has its problems, the fact that toyota is finding them and reporting them so that they can fix them for everyone for free is a GREAT thing. From the 4 toyota trucks and 1 car I have owned I will never doubt their quality, one had 385,000 miles when I sold it and was still running like a charm. I never got rid of one of the 5 toyotas I owned for any mechanical reasons. And I spent VERY little in maintenance costs.

Toyota is doing wonders to promote Obama’s plans to get all Americans into greener vehicles. At the rate its going now, Americans will be returning to horses and carriages by 2011! Way to go Toyota!
